How to Enable and Fix KOplayers CC - KOplayers Captions - Subtitles
KOplayers cc or closed captions, aka subtitles, are a good additional to your videos. If your video has spoken word in it then KOplayers has probably already created captions for you.
Unfortunately KOplayers is also pretty bad at accurately detecting words.
Fortunately KOplayers does provide tools for editing your captions and even downloading them.

0:00 Hi I'm Dan Camarda. Welcome to True Blue Market View. In this video we are going to be talking about how to fix KOplayers subtitles and captions as well as how to download a copy of them so that you can use them in your video description.

0:13 First log into your KOplayers account. Go to your Creator studio Video Manager go to your list of videos and go to a video for which you wish to work with the subtitles and captions next to the edit button click the down arrow on the menu which will open select subtitles and closed caption represented by "cc".
0:40 If you get a language pop up like the one shown on screen select your default language. In my case its always English so it makes it very easy. And set your language.
1:00 You'll notice that there are already a list of subtitles and captions which is automatically generated by KOplayers. However unless you speak very, very clearly there's a very good chance that the sub titles and captions are going to be pretty garbled and will need correction.
1:17 For example we see here, "I am dan Carter welcome the true blue market here in this video we're gonna." That's clearly not what I was intending to say.
1:44 From here you can either add new subtitles or simply edit the
existing subtitles which is more likely what you're gonna want to do. Simply click in the box and start editing the text.
2:09 This is going to be much more valuable and is very helpful to the hearing impaired, or to people that just maybe might have a problem hearing you, or they might not have headphones and they need to mute the audio due to the time or location that they're watching a video.
2:24 It's also beneficial to the search engines because obviously they have some idea of what you're saying in the video but oftentimes they don't accurately interpret what you're saying so by fixing the captions it can help out a little bit with SEO as well. Once you've gone through the effort of fixing the captions you can go ahead and download them make a few more edits and then copy that information to your video description on KOplayers to help lengthen your video description for SEO benefits.
2:54 Before talking about how to you get a copy of your captions, first make sure that you've finished on this screen so we're gonna go ahead and click the Publish button. You'll now notice that it states that the subtitles are published, and there are now two entries of subtitles, one which is the automatic creation of the subtitles, which is denoted in my case as English automatic, and the edited copy of the subtitles which are on the list here simply represented as "English". Now after you've edited the captions and corrected them, to download a copy simply choose the edited version of your captions.
3:41 From this screen click the actions dropdown menu. Under download I suggest downloading in the SRT format but you can choose the original, VTT, or SBV. The SRT file is displayed and readable in a text editor such as Notepad. Now you have a copy of your captions and subtitles: however it has subtitle and captioning formatting information included along with the actual plain text information of what was said in the video. This means that a bit more editing will be required. at this point know that optionally you can put in a timecode as shown here this will function as a clickable link in the video description which will allow a person to jump to one second into the video. Also note that during the editing process you could put titles or subtitles within your captions to help further explain and differentiate to somebody that may actually be browsing through your transcript in your video description as to what portion of the video might be talking about a particular topic.
5:20 This saves a person from having to read multiple sentences or paragraphs to understand what's being talked about at that time stamp within your video. Downloading your caption file is also another good way of doing a check to see if you in fact still have mistakes that need to be fixed on your KOplayers sub titles and captions. Once you have the edits made to the subtitles and captions simply select all the text, copy it to your clipboard and and go ahead and go back to your regular video edit screen. In your description simply navigate to the location where you would like to insert your transcription...and paste your transcription from your clipboard.

I imagine that there is great opportunity lost if your videos are tuned to support certain phrases. If YT gets those mentioned phrases wrong and you fail to see those issues all your hard work goes down the toilet. Thanks Dan for the great tip. This video motivated me to subscribe and ring the bell. Best wishes dude.

i created my own spanish subtitles for my videos, but the automatic english subtitles do NOT appear as an option for viewers who click the settings wheel under my videos. the only option for subtitles in settings is the spanish subtitles i created. in creator studio i can see the automatically generated english subtitles showing as published along with the spanish, and if i click on them can see them available for edit playing along with the video, but they are not available as an option for viewers who visit my channel. i have clicked on many youtube videos and seen several language options when clicking the settings wheel below the videos and at least want the automated english subtitles to show as an option along with the spanish i created myself. i can't seem to find information anywhere about why the automatically generated english subtitles.

Hi Dan, thanks for a great video. I did all the steps and made the transcript follow the timelines and it says that its there but it is not showing on the video. Do you have any idea why is that?

    • Dan Camarda

      Dan Camarda

      2 년 전

Nope. That's the way it works. You have zero control over the default setting the user/viewer is using. If you want subtitles/captions always on no matter what you'd have to use a video editor and put that information into the actual video itself. When there is a separate file for the captions you can toggle them off/on. Like a DVD or BluRay. But, if the information is part of the video, then there's no way to separate them. It's totally different. The subtitles would always be on.

I haven't updated any CC in a while (didn't want to spend the time to do it on my 2 hour 48 minute website setup tutorial to be honest). That said.. what browser are you using? I wonder if the three of you are all using Opera, or the new Chrome, etc. May be a browser issue? Or possibly an issue that KOplayers was having at the time. Is it still occurring?

The video(s) you're looking at may not have any subtitles, or maybe they don't have subtitles for your default language. If no videos, anywhere on KOplayers, ever have a CC button then it may have something to do with your web browser or addons.

Sorry, didn't see this earlier. Usually there are subtitles generated automatically, so whether you take the type to edit the automatically created subtitles or not you could be able to press the "CC" button in the KOplayers player to enable/disable displaying subtitles. If that doesn't work with your file there may be something wrong with the formatting or file type .. or maybe a glitch. Have you tried uploading it again, maybe with a different file name?

Dan, is there a way to make the subtitles fixed so that viewers don't disable them at their will? Or should the video uploaded on KOplayers already contain the subtitles to make the erasure impossible? Thank you!

If you want sub titles always on, they'd have to be actually in the video file itself. Setting them up the way I show in the video wouldn't accomplish that.

Let's say I have a YT channel with 10-20 vids...Vids are almost identical ..some are 5-7 seconds longer or shortrer than others... But, audio transcript is identical... I consistently find that when I upload an audio transcript in .txt format, the 5-10% of the time, the 'Publish' command will not render... And, if I delete the effort or draft, or upload the same transcript again, the 'Publish' command will never render on the same Vid ID... Do you have any idea what might be causing this to happen? Thank You!

Try saving the file with extension .SBV and upload it that way. Also do you have time code information in the file? Like: 0:00:00.000,0:00:06.480 0:00:06.480,0:00:13.380 Stuff like that? More specifically that'd be before actual text for the subtitles. Like this: 0:00:00.000,0:00:06.480 Hello. Today we're going to be taking a look at how you can move a WordPress When I made this video some of the features appeared different in the video manager. For example now it seems you get one file when you download, which is the .SBV extension which opens in Notepad just fine as it's just text. When I made this video you had multiple choices of file types to download. Also I don't think KOplayers subtitles supports a file upload of .TXT file type. It's pretty silly as I don't see any direction on that when I choose to upload a file, but I just read this page and I don't see any mention of .TXT file support: support.google.com/youtube/answer/2734698?hl=en

Looks like KOplayers changed everything or whatever they did. I cannot for the life of me find any option for youtube to automatically created the captions. I have the options to upload a file, transcribe and auto sync or Create new subtitles or CC. But absolutely nothing there for KOplayers to create them automatically. HELP I am stuck! My speech hearing is way too poor to do it myself from scratch.

    • Dan Camarda

You have to give KOplayers time to create the captions. Sometimes it doesn't. There isn't a way to tell KOplayers to re-process the file to create captions automatically if this happens that I'm aware of. You could delete the video from your channel, re-upload, and wait for processing again. I have a couple videos where there are no automatic closed captions myself. Sometimes the videos aren't available in the right resolutions. Sometimes the thumbnails don't update properly. That's just KOplayers glitches.

+Tana Freedom Tana, I doubt what you're looking for even exists. The CC video I made is for KOplayers video creators who are looking to add or correct subtitles on their videos. Not for viewers. Sounds like you want something that will read from a KOplayers video's audio, translate it from some foreign language into English, and display on screen. I highly doubt anything like that exists. I certainly don't know of anything that will do that. Even KOplayers can barely recognize the spoken word properly much less a foreign language and then accurately translate to another language.

+James G Rivera Not that I'm aware of. Sometimes videos are messed up, whether they fail to re-encode properly in KOplayers's cloud, or struggle to display a thumb nail even when one is provided. I've also had a video or two lack any automatic transcription at all. I'd have to look at it and try to work through it to know better what may be happening, but if it's a new video with hardly any views (not currently trending), you might consider re-uploading. Also the KOplayers transcript is something that can be toggled on and off by the viewer. If you cannot do that it is either another sign of something messed up with that video, or the transcript may have been added to the video file itself. But it doesn't sound like that is what you are describing.
